When you opt in to a newsletter or blog updates, or other products I may offer on this site, I store your email address on a secure private server, I don’t collect any additional information about you and I’ll keep your details until you unsubscribe. I do use some third party providers – I’m using WordPress and by default when you leave comments on the site WordPress collects the data shown in the comments form, and also your IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. The comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so WordPress can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it and after your comment has been approved, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
